Maintenance checklist

Rotary die maintenance checklist

Use this operator checklist to spot wear, confirm pressure settings, protect paired tooling, and schedule resharpening before performance drifts.

Before the run

  • Confirm die serial, anvil, gear, and magnetic cylinder pairing.
  • Inspect the die edge, journals, bearers, and anvil surface under good lighting.
  • Verify liner, adhesive, caliper, and material stack match the setup sheet.
  • Start from the last documented pressure settings instead of over-pressuring the tool.

During the run

  • Watch for rising pressure, liner bruising, hanging slugs, fuzzing, or incomplete cuts.
  • Log speed, pressure, liner, adhesive, and any operator adjustments.
  • Stop and clean adhesive or ink build-up before it masks a die-condition issue.

After the run

  • Clean and protect the die edge before storage or shipment.
  • Record run counts and symptoms so resharpen intervals are based on production evidence.
  • Schedule sharpening when pressure or quality begins to drift from the documented window.
