Surface prep checklist
- Cylinder face Ra ≤0.2 µm for pharma/security work.
- Hardened or ceramic anvils reduce galling on abrasive films.
- Lubricate journal bearings lightly; avoid contaminating blade edges.
Cylinders & anvils
Keep blade height, TIR, and surface prep within spec and our solid dies will stay on-press longer. Use the press matrix and notes below as your quick reference.
Press model guidance
| Press | Models | TIR target | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mark Andy Performance Series | P5, P7, P9 | ≤8 µm | Use ceramic bearings, shim for 0.043 in blade height, verify registration cams. |
| Nilpeter FA | FA-17, FA-22 | ≤6 µm | Document anvil pressure settings; hold anvil surface at Ra ≤0.2 µm. |
| Gallus ECS/Labelmaster | ECS 340, Labelmaster | ≤5 µm | Match hardened anvils 60–62 HRC; run-in bearings before pharma work. |
| ABG Digicon | Series 3 | ≤10 µm | Offline converting: check vacuum drums and magnet clamping force. |
List required bearings/shim packs and target TIR by press model where known. Include surface prep guidance for cylinders/anvils.
